What Are Tuberous Breasts?
Tuberous breasts are a breast deformity that appears during adolescence.
Instead of developing round and well-shaped, the breasts grow in an elongated, narrow way, with a “pointed” or tubular appearance.
It is not a disease, it is not dangerous, and it is no one’s fault. The breast simply did not expand properly in the lower portion because an internal “constriction ring” of tissue compressed it and prevented natural growth.

Most Common Characteristics
- Elongated or cone-shaped breast
- Large or overly protruding areola
- Lack of volume in the lower portion
- Mammary fold (the line under the breast) higher than normal
- Asymmetry (one breast smaller or more sagging than the other)
In simple terms: the breast did not open downward as it should, which is why it takes on a tubular shape.
How Do I Know If I Have Tuberous Breasts?
If when looking in the mirror you notice any of the following signs, it is possible that you have this condition:
- Elongated or tube-shaped breast
- Very short or poorly defined lower portion
- Large or “bulging” areola
- Breasts that appear “tight” or “stretched”
- Marked differences between one breast and the other
Many women believe they only need a breast augmentation, but if the base is tuberous, an implant alone will not provide a pleasing result. The shape must be corrected first.
How Are Tuberous Breasts Corrected?
The treatment is not simply placing an implant.
True correction consists of releasing the constriction ring that tightens the breast internally and gives it that elongated shape.

The Surgery Generally Includes:
Releasing the constriction ring
This allows the lower portion of the breast to finally expand and appear round.Shaping the lower pole of the breast
A wider and more natural base is created.Correcting the areola if it is large or overly protruding.
Placing an implant (if the patient desires added volume).
Adjusting height, position, or asymmetries so that both breasts are balanced.
When the ring is released and the base is reshaped, the breast stops looking tubular and takes on a round, harmonious, and proportionate shape.
